Fishermen discovered stranded pilot whales in the sands along southern Chile's Straight of Magellan.  About 45 whales beached themselves and authorities have no clue yet as to why they stranded. 

Fishermen notified the Chilean army and they began the arduous task of trying to save the whales and get them back to sea, many of which measured 6 meters (20 feet).  They were able to get 25 of them back to sea, although 20 of them died on the sand due to low tide conditions.
